To the Partner of a Dreamer (A short letter)

To Whom It May Concern: I know it may be tough being in a relationship with someone that has gigantic dreams.  What was once a journey filled with fun and excitement, has now too often become another hope filled process that may end up being like all the others, a big hop, skip and a … Read more

I’m Quicker Than You! (A needed change in perspective)

He’s NBA quick! In a conceding tone, that’s how a buddy of mine described my brother’s quickness on the basketball court to his nephew.  He told me so at a recent lunch we had together.  He had wanted to play two on two, since his relative was in town, but wanted to make sure his … Read more

Jeff and Marcus Jordan

In the aftermath of all that was wrong with me (see injury), something special happened. On January 13th, I sent the following tweet to Michael Jordan’s two sons, Jeff and Marcus, and a few other notable people: Will you help my dream, by RT about my blog mevsMJ.com? My goal is to play Michael Jordan … Read more

Pop Goes the Dream (The End of My Journey?)

My Injured Leg

I got the ball on the wing, faked right, exploded left. It was game number four of 2-on-2 this past Sunday. As I planted my right foot and pushed off trying to drive past my defender, I felt a pop in between my right calf muscle. I couldn’t tell you what happened to the basketball. All I know is I felt something no athlete ever wants to feel and my feet grew roots. I couldn’t move.

Me and My $14 Basketball Socks

I used to buy bags of socks.  You know, buy one bag, get one half off or even free.  The 20 pairs of socks for $10 deal.   Regular socks. In my “sock drawer” I have ten or so pair of black and even more white.   Some of the white ones are solid and … Read more

I’m a Gym Rat (Again?)

After a more than 12 year hiatus from joining any gym, this past Saturday I signed up and am now an official member of one of five new Orlando Magic Recreation Centers throughout Orange County, Florida. The Orlando Magic, as part of the new arena development, donated the funds which were used to build the … Read more

Great Expectations (My Journey to Inspire and Motivate)

“Whatever your life’s work, do it well.  A man should do his job so well that the living, the dead, and the unborn could do it no better.” – Martin Luther King, Jr. If I had seen the aforementioned MLK, Jr. quote before, I couldn’t recall.   On the celebration of his birthday this past … Read more

Austin Rivers gives ME a lesson in Return on Investment

Friday night found me sitting on one of many long pine benches that make up a set of bleachers, shoulder to shoulder, about as close as you’d ever want to sit with anyone.  To my left, a client and former Duke grad, his two sons and nephew.   On the other side me was a … Read more

Where are all the players these days?

The school bell would ring, and like death and taxes, we would head to the CLC or local court to play hoops.   On weekends, guys would be lining the sides and baseline at 12th street just waiting for a game.  It was intense.  It’s where we grew up. During holiday breaks and in the … Read more

Me vs. Scott Spencer (Former SG at Concordia University) *Video Post

One of the great things about this journey of mine has been the help I’ve received from others.  As I’m preparing for my match-up with the great Michael Jordan, my brother and some friends from high school have begun playing again too.  It’s been a huge help in getting back in basketball shape. A month … Read more

Now, now, now, now, now…a few more gone, sprayed like they’ve been released from an automatic weapon, past your life never to be captured again. You’ll probably chew up over 240 just reading this post. If you don’t mind me asking, exactly how old are … Read more

I Feel Alive Right Now!!!

2010 began like most years for me. Dick Clark did the countdown, the ball dropped, fireworks went off, and the calendar changed. Truthfully, I’ve never been much into new year’s resolutions because they don’t typically work.
