The NBA’s Corey Maggette shares my journey to play Michael Jordan with over 1 Million people!

Corey Maggette of the NBA’s Detroit Pistons

Last night I asked for support in my quest to play Michael Jordan 1-on-1.

I put a grouping of words together on Instagram and asked others to support my pursuit.

I stated something that I live and believe, at the end of my ask and that was, “Anything is Possible with Faith & Hard Work!”

Anything Is Possible with Faith & Hard Work

Then something amazing happened!

I received a random and very unexpected LIKE from the NBA’s Corey Maggette!

Sitting on my couch at home, stunned, I leaned over and showed my wife what had just happened.  Both of us amazed, I declared, it’s a God thing!

God wasn’t done.

Corey Maggette Shares with over 1 MILLION people & Follows ME on Twitter!

I then sent out the following tweet, which linked back to the Instagram post above.

Within a few minutes Maggette had retweeted that to all of his followers!!  ALL 1,011,205 of them!

Then to top things off, he FOLLOWED ME on Twitter!  (He only follows 1,880 people on the social media platform.)

Corey Maggette Shares & Follows Me on Twitter!

Did I mention that last year Corey played for Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Bobcats!?!?!!?!

Just a coincidence?  Naaaaaa!

I know some will think it’s a coincidence that an NBA player randomly finds a posting of mine on Instagram and chooses to like it.  A posting that in total received just 31 likes.

Some will think it’s a coincidence that the same NBA player took my message and gave it to the +1 million followers he has on Twitter.

Some will go on thinking it’s merely a coincidence that Maggette chose to also follow me on Twitter, when he follows just .185917% of his followers.

And some will then of course think it too is a coincidence that Corey played for and knows Michael Jordan.

Some will think that.

I know better.

Anything Is Possible with Faith & Hard Work!

Honestly, when I posted that grouping of words on Instagram, my hope was that I’d pick up a few likes.

God gives us a dream and then in moments like last night, with me, He says DREAM BIGGER!

My belief that I carry around with me, is that Anything Is Possible with FAITH & Hard Work!

I hope through this journey of mine to play Michael Jordan that you are seeing that!

I hope that this is another example to you that YOU CAN experience the things in life you were created to experience!

I hope you know that amazing moments aren’t reserved for just me and others.  Amazing moments are here for us all!

Thank you for all of your support!  It means so much to me!

me vs. Michael Jordan…the amazing journey continues!  WOW!

** UPDATE 1/18/2013 **

After all of this happened, one of the people that I shared this with was my great friend Dave Hopla.  Dave is an assistant coach for the New York Knicks.

I asked Dave, if he had a chance, to please tell Corey that I appreciate his support and that it means a lot to me.

Today, just before 6pm, I received a message from Dave letting me know that he had spoken to Maggette about me and my journey to play Michael Jordan before their game in London.  Yes, the Pistons were in London to play the Knicks the day after all of this happened!

Another coincidence?  Naaaaa!

He said that Corey thought my journey to play MJ was really cool!

Two people from the small family that is the NBA, talking about my journey to play Michael Jordan, on an NBA court, in London, England!

me vs. Michael Jordan…it’s going to happen!  So blessed!

If you’re new here, I set out in August 2010 to get a game of 1-on-1 vs. my childhood hero Michael Jordan.  This site is about that journey…through every valley, to every mountain top of triumph!

One of the best things ever is following your journey Kenny! The baby steps that you take help remind all of us exactly what your slogan represents, “Anything is possible with faith and hard work”.

How can any of us doubt that? For anyone pursuing a goal who may be discouraged all they have to do is visit three posts by you. 1. The initial goal. 2. Any single one that has to do with putting in the time and effort. 3. The fact that you have met anyone associated with MJ including the man himself.

I can’t wait to see what ends up happening the rest of the year. It’s so much fun to watch a journey and goal come alive and to fruition. Keep at it Kenny because there’s no stopping now!

Hi Kenny,

No surprises here. You know what I love most about how you document your journey? You are acting just like a kid would in pursuit of his dream. There is no shame, no awkwardness in asking for help, no social stigmas to hold you back from doing what you feel is the right thing to do. People admire this because not so many are capable of doing it in their everyday lives. I believe that in every small win you’ve recorded here is a healthy dose of luck which you CALLED upon yourself by acting and believing in yourself. I have a mentor (Wayne) who loves basketball and is a Season Ticket holder for the Toronto Raptors. Once he walked over to my desk and showed me 2 separate videos of him getting called out to the Raptors court during halftime, making 3-point shots and winning a car (1st episode) and a sweet vacation trip for two (2nd episode). I was waving my hands saying it’s impossible, it was pure luck. To which Wayne asked me a rhetorical question which taught me so much: “Do you think it was pure luck or the direct result of small steps I took to put myself in the position to succeed?” He just tapped on my desk and left while I was trying to wrap my head around what I just saw and heard. No surprise why Wayne is an extremely successful professional, mentor, husband and dad.

Denis – Appreciate your comment. I try to be as transparent as possible. For me, each step or leap, is a dream come true for me. I’m glad that it comes through in the writing.

Yeah, luck is overrated. It’s a word that people like to use when they can’t explain something. Rarely is it the reason behind someone’s success.

At the same time, I believe every person is equipped to do amazing things. That’s why I say and believe that Anything Is Possible with Faith & Hard Work! It’s not easy, but not much worth having is.

I believe there is a much higher purpose behind me and this journey than a game of basketball. It’s transformed from where it began and I’m enjoying each step.

Thanks again for the support and encouragement. I greatly appreciate it.
